Soydan Ozcan, Group Leader: Sustainable Manufacturing Technologies – Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Dr. Soydan Ozcan is a Senior R&D Scientist in the Manufacturing Science Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Ozcan is currently the Thrust Lead for Development of Bio-Derived Materials & Manufacturing at the ORNL’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF). His research addresses the broad and vital issue of identifying novel, high-value biomaterials from renewable sources. He facilitates the development of composite recycling technologies and utilizing various composite techniques to repurpose them into useful applications. Ozcan and his team are developing manufacturing techniques and exploring new materials to improve energy efficiency during composite manufacturing, decrease material waste, and improve material cost and performance. Applied R&D of Ozcan’s team engages over thirty industrial partners and delivers research with more direct applications to society. Ozcan is also a prolific researcher published nearly 100 papers, holds 21 issued and pending patents, has published 9 book chapters, and has been an active speaker with more than a hundred presentations, and short courses are given on the manufacturing of materials related topics and research.

Gina Oliver, Senior Director Durable Markets Advocacy – American Chemistry Council

Gina Oliver is the Senior Director for the American Chemistry Council’s (ACC) Durable Markets Advocacy Team. Ms. Oliver is a trusted advocate for the durable plastics and composites. Under Gina’s guidance, the ACC is the primary, collective voice for the durable plastics and automotive polymer and composites industry, working together to provide the innovative, sustainable material solutions that are essential to solving some of society’s biggest challenges, including CO2 emissions reduction and advancing a circular economy for durable plastic goods. Gina sits on the Women in Government Relations Transportation and Infrastructure Task Force, Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation Consortium Council, and the Global Automotive Steering Group - the governing body for the Global Automotive Declarable Substance List. Gina is a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers, Society of Automotive Engineers, Women in Government Relations and American Society of Association Executives. On behalf of her Members, Gina has cultivated valuable relationships within the durable goods value chain, coalitions and trade associations, key Congressional Offices, the Executive Branch, the Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation, the National Highway Safety & Traffic Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency, National Labs, and research universities.

Matthew Korey, R&D Staff, Manufacturing Demonstration Facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Matthew Korey specializes in the development and industrialization of novel, low cost, efficient manufacturing technologies for plastics and their composites. His work focuses on mechanical, chemical, biological, and thermochemical methods of composite recycling and the use of advanced re-processing techniques and repurposing to recycle industrial composites waste. Dr. Korey also has an R&D portfolio looking at the development and implementation of plastics made from alternative sources. He also has several projects focused on the lifecycle and technoeconomic analysis of plastics manufacturing, separation, and recycling. For his work he was awarded the 2024 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer award at the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He is currently R&D Staff at the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and an Assistant Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Korey is also co-chair of the Recycling Working Group at the Institute of Advanced Composites Manufacturing and Innovation (IACMI) and was the Founding Chair of TMS PRIDE.
